This compact creative kokeshi is titled "Yūgao" (夕顔) and is attributed in Japan to Minori (美徳). Its rounded, almost egg-shaped form and deep black reverse give the piece a striking presence despite its modest size.
The front depicts a kimono-clad figure with a gentle, almost dreamlike expression. Warm shades of brown and orange are combined with vivid green and red, while delicate white motifs across the kimono add an elegant and lively detail.
Yūgao refers to the pale flower that opens towards evening, a fitting title for this calm and refined kokeshi.
The reverse bears an original 鳴子 (Naruko) sticker, referring to the well-known kokeshi region in Miyagi. The kokeshi itself is unsigned and bears no artist's seal. This model is attributed in Japan to Minori and is known as Yūgao.
