Vintage Kuwahara Ōuchi Dolls by Sadamine from Yamaguchi | 8 cm

These Ōuchi Hina dolls form a meaningful pair, traditionally associated with harmony, good fortune and togetherness. This makes them a beautiful symbolic gift, for example for a wedding couple, a new beginning or as a quiet sign of connection. The dolls come from Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, and are connected to Ōuchi-nuri, the local lacquerware craft known for its deep gloss, rounded forms and refined decorative finish.

The dolls have the soft, rounded shape that is so characteristic of Ōuchi dolls. Their calm faces, small mouths and glossy black and reddish-brown lacquer give the pair a warm and restrained appearance. The floral motifs, gold-toned details and fine painted decoration add a subtle festive quality without making the set feel overly decorative.

This set comes from the Kuwahara Ōuchi-nuri Ōuchi Doll Factory and was made by Sadamine (貞峰). The original tomobako carries the calligraphy 大内人形 — Ōuchi ningyō / Ōuchi dolls — with the signature 貞峰 on the left. The set also includes a paper leaflet / shiori with information about Ōuchi dolls. With its black display base, tomobako, leaflet and signature, this set feels complete and especially collectible.
