Vintage Kamakura-bori Cabinet | Three Drawers | 24 cm

With its vertical form and bold bamboo decoration, this vintage Japanese cabinet has a distinctive, graphic appearance.

The bamboo stems extend across all three drawer fronts, creating one continuous composition. Slender leaves bring movement to the design, while the black handles almost disappear into the dark lines of the relief. The top and sides are also fully worked with a rhythmic pattern of rounded carving marks.

The deep red-black finish accentuates the carved decoration, revealing warmer reddish-brown nuances in selected areas. The cabinet was made in the tradition of Kamakura-bori, in which wood is carved and subsequently finished with lacquer.

Inside are three drawers in natural wood, suitable for jewellery, letters, accessories or other small personal belongings.

Bamboo forms the powerful focal point of this characterful Japanese storage cabinet from the Shōwa period.
