This traditional kokeshi was made by Takasaki Yuichi (高崎祐一, 1933–2021), a kokeshi craftsman from Yonezawa in Yamagata Prefecture. His work belongs to the traditional Yamagata lineage.
Its tall, slender body is framed by fine red horizontal bands at the top and base. Across the natural wood runs a bold floral decoration in vivid red, accompanied by dark green leaves. The contrast between the colourful design and visible wood grain gives the piece a warm and distinctive character.
The large rounded head is painted with restrained but expressive detail. Black and red hair accents frame the face, while fine eyes, eyebrows and a small red mouth create a calm expression.
The underside carries a clear maker's marking. The black inscription includes 米沢 (Yonezawa) and 祐一 (Yuichi), together with a red 高崎 (Takasaki) seal, identifying the piece as work by Takasaki Yuichi.
Takasaki continued the traditional Yamagata style learned through his father, Takasaki Eiichirō, and is documented in Japanese sources as a traditional Yamagata kokeshi craftsman.
