“Oboro” – Creative Kokeshi Set by Sekiguchi Tōa | 8.5 & 10.5 cm

This compact creative kokeshi set by Sekiguchi Tōa (関口東亜) is entitled "Oboro" (おぼろ).

The two figures were clearly conceived as a pair, yet each has its own character. The smaller kokeshi is finished in a warm red tone, while the larger figure has a deep black finish. Both bodies are decorated with a delicate bamboo motif, subtly rendered in shades of red.

The heads appear to sink partially into the rounded bodies, creating a soft, enclosed silhouette that adds to the restrained character of the design. Small eyes and minimal facial details further enhance their calm expression.

The strong contrast between red and black, combined with the simple forms and refined bamboo decoration, gives Oboroa distinctive presence despite its small scale.
