“Mai” – Large Creative Kokeshi by Shidō Shōzan | 45 cm

This striking creative kokeshi by Shidō Shōzan is entitled "Mai" (舞), meaning "dance."

Its exceptionally elongated, almost architectural form gives the piece a distinctly modern presence. With only a few carefully balanced lines and volumes, Shōzan creates a sense of movement. The slender posture, slightly asymmetrical silhouette and subtle green obi evoke the quiet rhythm of a dancer in motion.

Much of the natural wood remains visible and plays an essential role in the design. This gives the piece a warm yet highly minimalist character and allows it to stand almost like a small wooden sculpture.

At 45 cm tall, this version has an impressive presence, while its weight of just 324 g keeps the form surprisingly light and refined.
