This impressive vintage Kamakura-bori cabinet combines a powerful dark presence with finely carved decoration. Its entire surface is covered in a rhythmic carved pattern, allowing the warm reddish-brown underlayer to emerge through the darker finish.

A large flowering branch with plum blossoms (ume) extends across the two doors. The asymmetrical composition brings movement to the front and contrasts beautifully with the almost geometric texture of the background. In Japanese visual culture, plum blossom is closely associated with the transition from winter to spring and traditionally symbolises resilience and renewal.

The doors are finished with decorative metal ring handles. Inside is a generous storage compartment with a fixed shelf, making the cabinet both a decorative piece and a practical object.

Its substantial size gives this piece considerable presence. Dark, tactile and highly sculptural, it is a particularly striking example of Kamakura-bori and works beautifully as a standalone statement piece.

Dimensions: approx. 51 × 33 × 44.5 cm
