“Hana” – Creative Kokeshi by Sato Kōson | 30.5 cm

This large creative kokeshi by Sato Kōson (佐藤幸尊) is entitled "Hana" (花), simply meaning "flower."

The elongated body is finished in deep red with a finely speckled black texture and decorated with large stylised floral motifs. Dark outlines and kimono-like lines give structure to the design, while the natural wood of the face creates a warm contrast.

The black hair and small red hair ornament add a playful accent, while the fine eyes and tiny red mouth give the figure the calm, friendly expression associated with Kōson's work.

The underside bears a handwritten inscription dated Shōwa 60 (1985), together with a reference to a graduation commemoration (卒業記念) and the maker's signature. This gives the piece both a precise date and a personal commemorative context.
