Large Sendai Kokeshi by Kawamura Shōji | 60 cm

This large vintage Japanese Sendai Kokeshi was made by Kawamura Shōji (川村昭治), a Kokeshi craftsman from Miyagi whose work is associated with the Sendai and Sakunami traditions.

Standing 60 cm tall and weighing almost 4 kg, this is an exceptionally large and imposing example. Its elongated wooden form rests on a fixed base and is finished in deep reddish-brown and dark tones.

The underside bears the handwritten signature 川村昭治 – Kawamura Shōji, clearly identifying the maker.

Its exceptional scale gives this Kokeshi a strong presence and makes it a distinctive collector's piece within a collection of traditional Japanese Kokeshi.
