This creative kokeshi by Sansaku Sekiguchi bears the title "Dōjo" (童女), a Japanese term referring to a young girl.
The design is compact yet remarkably expressive. A broad, deep black hairstyle almost completely frames the small face, creating a striking contrast with the warm natural tone of the wood. Simple facial features and a tiny red mouth give her a calm and understated expression.
The body is finished in deep blue-green tones and decorated with delicate gold-coloured floral motifs. The restrained kimono-like form, graphic hairstyle and warm accents give the piece an elegant appearance that is highly characteristic of Sansaku Sekiguchi.
The reverse bears Sansaku Sekiguchi's gold-coloured signature.
This example is offered without the wooden nameplate that has survived with some examples of Dōjo.
