This large and striking Chigozakura, "Cherry Blossom Child", is a remarkable work by Watanabe Masao (渡辺正雄), a respected artist within the Japanese creative Kokeshi movement. With its height of 36.5 cm and weight of over 1.3 kg, this piece has a strong sculptural quality.

The dark, glossy kimono creates a sense of depth and elegance, while the subtle red accents refer to cherry blossom, one of the most beloved motifs in Japanese art. Sakura symbolises beauty, transience and the brief moment in which something reaches full bloom.

The face is soft and restrained, giving the doll a calm and serene expression. The contrast between the deep tones of the body, the delicate floral details and the gentle features makes this a powerful yet refined collector's piece.

This model is also internationally known as the "Beatles Doll". According to its history, an example of this model was presented to The Beatles in 1965 after one of their performances in Japan. This cultural connection adds an extra layer of interest and collectability.
