This creative kokeshi by Kisaku (季作) has a strong, almost graphic appearance. The deep black hairstyle contrasts beautifully with the warm brown tones of the body and the small, delicately drawn face.
The kimono is subtly detailed with fine lines and tiny dots that add relief and texture to the wood. Particularly beautiful is the warm patina, which gives the piece much of its distinctive vintage character. Its restrained palette and compact form make this kokeshi both serene and highly decorative.
The underside bears the 季作 (Kisaku) maker's mark.
