This creative Kokeshi was crafted by Kazuo Takamizawa (高見澤一男), a recognised Japanese artist within the sōsaku (creative) Kokeshi tradition. The title is Fuji no Sato (藤の里), which can be freely translated as "Village of Wisteria."

It radiates a quiet refinement. The slender form, restrained colour palette and rhythmic wisteria motif invite slow, attentive viewing. Everything about this piece is in balance: the proportions, the painting and the understated expression.

A strong and harmonious example of Japanese sōsaku Kokeshi art from the Shōwa period, in which craftsmanship and poetry meet with subtle elegance.
