During the multi-day firing process at high temperatures, natural colour variations and distinctive scarlet-toned markings emerge through the interaction of ash, flame and placement within the kiln. No two cups are exactly alike, yet together they form a balanced and harmonious set with a warm, earthy presence.
Each cup bears the engraved kiln mark and the set is accompanied by the original Taizangama pamphlet, describing the firing process and philosophy of the kiln. Based on style, finish and documentation, this set is dated to the late Shōwa period (approximately the 1970s–1980s).
A quiet yet expressive set, made for everyday use — as Bizen ware was originally intended — and a fine example of Japanese craftsmanship and wabi-sabi aesthetics.
