Sansaku Sekiguchi – Grand Master of Sōsaku Kokeshi
Sansaku Sekiguchi (関口三作, 1925–2018) was one of the most influential and celebrated kokeshi‑shi in the Sōsaku (creative) kokeshi movement.
Born in Shinto, Gunma Prefecture, he developed a style that bridged traditional forms with modern artistic freedom.
He was the only kokeshi artist ever recognized as a Living National Treasure candidate for folk art,
and received the Prime Minister's Award multiple times.
